Dulwich College Preparatory School
Axess 4 All Limited in association with Lee Evans Partnership and Coleman and James Contractors have recently installed an Axess A3000 Hydraulic Platform Lift into the refurbished Annexe Building at Dulwich College Preparatory School. To enable the refurbished Annexe Building to meet Part M of the Building Regulations a hydraulic platform lift was installed to allow disabled students from ground to 1st floor.
Axess 4 All Limited were chosen following their successful installation of 2 no Axess A5000 screw driven units at Dulwich College, Cranbrook.
The School wished to keep the existing staircase, therefore an Axess A3000 Hydraulic Platform Lift was chosen to fit into the small aperture the staircase provided. To keep the light and clean lines the new building required a part glazed shaft enclosure . Both doors are glazed with the ground floor around the staircase a solid construction while the remaining shaft was fitted with glazed panels. The unit has a capacity of 400kgs and is suitable for disabled students and their carer to travel from ground to 1st floor.
To keep the unit within the school environmental procedures, the shaft roof and light is automatic. The light only comes on while the lift is in operation and turns off automatically when not in use. Access is controlled by key isolation so that only authorised persons can use the lift.
The unit was installed within a couple of days and everything went very smoothly. A spokesman for Coleman and James stated that the installation was particularly quick and successful. We saw the engineers turn up and next thing they were cleaning up and handing over the successfully installed unit with complete training in the operation of the lift.
