Monkwearmouth Station
Today the museum proudly boasts a fine new exhibition with seven new galleries complete with interactive displays, following an extensive restoration and refurbishment project which cost in excess of £1 million. The museum includes the original 1866 booking office, but with the first floor converted to provide dedicated education spaces, a Platform Lift supplied by Axess4All Ltd ensures that this facility is available to all of the visitors to the building.
This contemporary addition to the museum featuring today’s advanced engineering and technology links well with a once leading facility brought about by George Hudson (1800 – 1871) who was known as the “Railway King”, an entrepreneur of extraordinary energy and vision.
